Today, a pair of headphones I purchased in 2002 stopped working. They were vital in creating every song on every The Very Most album. I had them for longer than I’ve had any other piece of equipment, with the exception of the bass I bought in the eighth grade (1990). As you can tell from the photos, they were really worn out, but I knew their sound really, really well. Not having them around is going to throw me off my game for a while. I bought a new set of 240s, but they’re just not the same. I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that the old 240s were made in Austria and the new ones are made in, shockingly enough, China. Either way, I’ll never have that sound back.
R.I.P. my circa 2002 AKG 240s. You were a great pair of headphones. They don’t make ‘em like you anymore.
